Du Plessis has won eleven straight fights, including three consecutive championship bouts. He has plenty of experience in title fights, with this being the ninth such occurrence for Du Plessis. His only two losses came in 2014 to Garreth McLellan and 2018 against Roberto Soldić (both of which were championship bouts).
The challenger in this one, Chimaev, has a perfect 14-0 record since entering the UFC in 2018, and this is his first crack at a title fight. He has been cruising against tough competition, taking down Robert Whittaker, Kamaru Usman, Kevin Holland, and Gilbert Burns in his last four appearances in the octagon. This is the biggest fight of his life so far, and he enters as the slight favorite to take home the win.
There are a number of other fantastic fights on the UFC 319 main card, including Lerone Murphy versus Aaron Pico, Geoff Neal versus Carlos Prates, Jared Cannonier versus Michael Page, and Tim Elliott versus Kai Asakura.
This is a great UFC fight card that will not disappoint; make sure to tune in and catch all the action.
