Rumors and speculation have intensified in recent days indicating the Arizona Diamondbacks could look to trade star infielder Ketel Marte in the offseason.
Marte has found himself in the middle of a bit of drama, though it hasn’t seemed like a big deal. More than anything, it seems like the media is blowing internal situations out of the water. But the Diamondbacks could still look to move him.
FanSided’s Chris Landers recently urged the New York Mets to swing a trade for Marte if the Diamondbacks are open to trading him in the offseason.
“The Mets need to have some uncomfortable conversations about the future of their infield, with Jeff McNeil entering his final guaranteed year of control in 2026 and none of Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio, or Luisangel Acuña establishing themselves as everyday big leaguers just yet,” Landers wrote. “Of course, New York will also have Pete Alonso’s free agency to worry about, but Marte’s team-friendly deal would make it easy for Steve Cohen to do both.
“We’ve seen just how top-heavy this lineup can be at times this year; the Mets need another bat to give them some length, given how badly their young, homegrown talent has struggled, and Marte is far and away the best bat available at a position of real need.”
The Mets need to add a cost-controlled infielder to their lineup, and Marte would be the perfect option. He’s a superstar with good defense and an elite bat when healthy.
The Mets have the money and prospects to make a deal happen. While it seems unlikely to come to fruition at the moment, things could quickly change once the offseason begins. If the Diamondbacks are all right with blowing their roster up a bit more, a Marte trade could become a reality, and the Mets would be the perfect landing spot.
