The Las Vegas Aces (19-14) make the short trip to Arizona to take on the Phoenix Mercury (19-12) at PHX Arena on Friday night in a pivotal matchup for WNBA playoff seeding.

If the season ended today, the Mercury would have home-court advantage in the first round, facing these same Aces. Phoenix climbed into playoff contention with a three-game winning streak, but that momentum came to a halt on August 10 with a 74-66 loss to the Atlanta Dream. Alyssa Thomas continued her terrific run, scoring 21 points with eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals in the loss.
Las Vegas is also streaking its way up the standings, having won seven of its last eight and five in a row. Their most recent victory came against the New York Liberty, an 83-77 win in which Jewell Loyd came off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points. A’Ja Wilson overcame a rough night from the field (3-for-14) by going a perfect 11-for-11 from the foul line, adding up to 17 points to go with her 16 rebounds, two steals, and two blocks.
The Aces and Mercury have split their first two games of the season, and after tonight will play one more time, on August 21st in Las Vegas.
