(WHNT) — Chiropractic care is a unique healthcare option that emphasizes the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
In this week’s next question, we are highlighting a woman whose life’s work is to educate people on ways to improve posture and reduce pain.
“I am enthusiastic about this career,” Dr. Nixia Jordan said. “I believe in a holistic approach to medicine.”
Dr. Nixia Jordan is on a mission to educate people about the benefits of chiropractic care. This includes relief from lower back pain, neck pain and headaches. This drug-free approach to pain medicine is not a lifelong commitment. In fact, most chiropractors can get you feeling better in a matter of months. However, there are some common concerns for many people when it comes to chiropractors.
“Some of the stereotypes include people saying chiropractors are going to break our backs or giving us paralysis,” said Jordan. “And that is not true whatsoever. We are very hands-on, we do light adjustments, we can do hard adjustments wherever you prefer, but your body definitely needs it. And I would tell all African Americans that they can definitely find a good chiropractor to help them.”
Jordan is a graduate of Life University in Marietta, Georgia. She joins a small percentage of African Americans who are in this profession. According to recent data, African Americans make up about 2 percent of chiropractors in the nation. Jordan says she started out studying pre-med psychology but later decided to take a different career path.
“I fell in love with it, “said Jordan. “They told me it’s like chiropractic philosophy, the power of the body heals the body, and from there on, I decided this is where I want to be. We can do things. Pain-free without medication.”
This busy mom of twin boys just opened Jordan Spine Care this past spring. Fulfilling a dream of many who are in this field.
Next question. What would you say to young Doctor Jordan?
“Young Doctor Jordan, you could do anything that you put your mind to. You can be the best that you can be and just keep striving and keep pushing.”
Next question. What do you want people to know about chiropractic care and the benefits?
“It can improve so much. Our posture. We are in this day and age where we’re texting and looking down all the time. Just sit up, relax those shoulders, bring them back and just sit up nice and straight.”
