Lately, the New York Giants have been going to work without the star receiver Malik Nabers in the mix.

Throughout the offseason, Nabers has battled through setbacks due to a toe injury. While he was ready for the start of camp, the star wide receiver had been sidelined for quite some time.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll didn’t have much to say on the matter on Thursday.

“Again, not going to get into injuries,” Daboll told reporters. “He’s working hard to get back.”

It’s difficult to get a real read on the situation. With Daboll rightfully withholding the offseason health update, it’s unclear if Nabers is dealing with anything that could affect his Week 1 status next month.

When the Giants fired up OTAs back in the spring, Nabers was noticeably absent from the team’s drills. During the mandatory minicamp phase of the offseason, Daboll revealed that Nabers wasn’t dealing with anything too concerning, but he wouldn’t be on the field until training camp.

In the weeks leading up to camp, Nabers was with his teammates for multiple pre-camp training sessions. He was suited up as soon as late July approached.

At the start of training camp, Nabers was asked about potentially getting surgery to fix his toe-related concern. The star wide receiver confirmed that it was not in the plans. Instead, Nabers is going to continue doing what he can to rest and recover while trying not to miss too much time.

With the Giants still early in the preseason, they don’t see a need to press their luck with Nabers during the offseason. While he could be gaining valuable reps with the newly-added Russell Wilson, Nabers has proven that he could adjust on the fly with whoever is under center.

During his rookie year last season, Nabers had to play with multiple passers. After Daniel Jones was benched midway through the year, the Giants couldn’t find consistency at the quarterback position. Yet, Nabers was still thriving.

The 2024 first-round pick out of LSU appeared in 15 games. He was targeted 170 times and caught 109 passes. Nabers produced just over 1,200 yards and reached the endzone seven times. As a rookie, Nabers was voted into the NFL Pro Bowl. His new quarterback, Russell Wilson, mentioned that Nabers is one of the key reasons why he joined the Giants, dubbing the former sixth-overall pick as the best in the league.

When will they share the field together outside of practice? The Giants can’t say just yet.
