DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — The Decatur Police Department says a man was arrested Tuesday for what the police are calling “years of recurring theft” from a local business.
DPD said Joel Phillip Ghrigsby, 63, was arrested and charged with first-degree theft after the search of a home in Trinity.
According to the department, the investigation into the theft began on August 6, when a Decatur business owner reported an internal theft at their business in the 2300 block of 6th Ave. SE.
Police said during the investigation, Ghrigsby was found ot be involved and tied to what police called “multiple years of recurring theft from the business. DPD said investigators found evidence that linked Ghrigsby to over $114,000 of property theft from the business.
The department said on August 12, Decatur police, with help from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, served a search and arrest warrant in the 20000 block of County Road 460 in Trinity. DPD said Ghrigsby was located at the home and arrested.
Authorities said Ghrigsby was transported to the Morgan County Jail and held on a $30,000 cash bond, per a Morgan County Circuit Court Judge. Jail records show he has since bonded out.
