HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The field of Republican candidates choosing to run for current Senator Tommy Tuberville’s seat is growing.

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore announced Tuesday he is seeking the position Tuberville is leaving to run for governor.

Moore describes himself as a conservative, faith-driven man. He told News 19 he hopes his record will speak for him.

“We felt like this would be the next opportunity for us to serve the people,” Moore said.

He currently represents Alabama’s southernmost congressional district in Washington. Moore is no stranger to Alabama politics as he was first elected to the Alabama Legislature in 2010.

Before his political career began, Moore ran his own waste management company.

Moore was an early supporter of President Trump, first endorsing him as a candidate in 2015.

“Alabama loves President Trump. They love him as a state,” Moore said. “I think we’re the top Trump state in the nation, and being the first to endorse him and being a delegate and serving in those capacities, I think for us the Senate is an opportunity to continue to know that he has men of valor who will protect him and move his agenda forward.”

Moore said he hopes to limit the size of the federal government while supporting Alabama workers.

“With the influx of industry to this state and to this nation, I think we have to continue to make sure that we train a workforce that’s capable,” Moore said. “Everybody’s not going to go to a four-year college, but if you can lay a bead with a welder, you can do HVAC. I think for us, workforce development, and making sure that the labor force is participating, but also they’re qualified to participate in high-paying jobs.”

So far, two other Republicans have announced they are running for this seat in the Senate: current Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson.

The Republican primary is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
