A man wanted as part of a murder investigation in Washington State has been apprehended in the Los Angeles area, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirms to KTLA.
Alexander Lee Rogers, 51, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon at an undisclosed location in L.A., potentially near Koreatown.
His arrest comes about an hour after authorities had initially set up a perimeter in a residential neighborhood of Woodland Hills following reports of a potential sighting.
Rogers is wanted in connection with the Aug. 5 killing of a 64-year-old woman and attempted murder of a 73-year-old man in Longview, Washington, according to the Longview Police Department.
On Monday, a vehicle believed to be the suspect’s was found abandoned on the 23000 block of Calabasas Road in Woodland Hills. Authorities also found surveillance footage from the Calabasas area that they say showed Rogers before he abandoned the vehicle, a partially spray-painted black BMW.
Aerial video from Sky5 in Woodland Hills showed about a dozen law enforcement vehicles in the area of Mulholland and San Feliciano drives, and one KTLA viewer reported traffic was at a standstill with multiple roads in the area closed to drivers.
By around 2 p.m., the majority of those involved law enforcement vehicles had cleared the area without any known arrests made. Shortly after, LASD officials, and later a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson, confirmed that Rogers was arrested in an area unrelated to the search.
He was taken into custody by LAPD officers assigned to the Olympic Division, which encompasses parts of west-central L.A., including parts of Koreatown, Echo Park, Silverlake and the Westlake District.
Rogers is believed to have been working as a handyman at the home of 64-year-old Dawn Peters and her 73-year-old brother-in-law, Andrew Peters. Dawn Peters died in the attack; Andrew Peters was in critical condition but has since been released from the hospital.
In addition to the alleged murder, Rogers has a conviction for a violent machete attack of two people in their home. He was convicted of first-degree assault and spent 20 years in prison, having just been released around 10 months ago.
Rogers, described as a White man standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds, was considered armed and dangerous, and the public was urged not to approach him.
