Mookie Betts on Turning His Season Around for Dodgers: ‘This Season is Over’

Mookie Betts will be the first to tell you he’s in a slump offensively this season for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

His version of a slump isn’t as bad as what other players have endured, but it’s still affecting every aspect of his game. Betts didn’t hold back when asked if he could turn things around before the end of the season.

“This season’s over,” Betts told Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. “My season’s kind of over. We’re going to have to chalk that up for not a great season. But I can go out and help the boys win every night, do something, get an RBI, make a play, do something that — I’m going to have to shift my focus there.

“Obviously everyone wants to have great seasons, but it’s a lot easier when you just don’t worry about the season. You just worry about game to game. I’ll take this perspective for the rest of my career.”

This slump from Betts has gone on for most of the year as the 32-year-old infielder just can’t figure things out offensively. Just when you think he may be turning a corner and get it figured out with a three-hit game, he finishes the next game without a hit.

Even though he believes he can’t change anything for this season, Betts is still showing his selflessness by trying to be the best teammate he can be. Anyone who has played sports or been around athletes knows it’s hard to stay positive during a slump, especially a long one.

With just about six weeks left in the regular season, Betts has approximately 100 at-bats to try and get hot going into the postseason. It won’t be easy, but one at-bat can flip his confidence.
