Parents are raising money after a youth soccer league had thousands of dollars worth of gear stolen in Santa Clarita.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday, when Santa Clarita Youth Soccer League Founder Kevin Morales was woken up by the sound of shattering glass as someone was stealing the truck and trailer parked in the driveway of his home in Sand Canyon, the Santa Clarita Valley Signal reported.

Morales told the newspaper he rushed outside and even tried to pursue the suspect in his smaller work truck, but the thief eventually got away.

Not only did Morales lose his truck, but the trailer was carrying multiple soccer goals, over 30 soccer balls and the league’s custom canopy.

A GoFundMe page with the goal of raising $8,000 to replace the gear has been posted.

“Kevin isn’t just a coach. He’s a mentor, a leader, and a friend to so many in Santa Clarita. He coaches for Legends Club Soccer and runs the Santa Clarita Youth Soccer League, impacting countless kids and families in our community. If you’ve met him, you know his heart for the game and for helping others,” a portion of the post reads.

The fundraiser was created by a friend of Morales on behalf of the Santa Clarita soccer community because “he would never ask for help himself.”

Morales posted a message Wednesday on the league’s Instagram page thanking his “soccer family” for their “overwhelming” support.
