Brandon Blackstock, talent manager and Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, has died after a three-year battle with cancer. He was 48.
A representative for the family announced Blackstock’s death in a statement, per People. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” it reads. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

One day prior, Clarkson inspired concern when she revealed that Blackstock, whom she divorced in 2020, had been ill, requiring her to postpone the rest of her Las Vegas residency in order to be with her children, River, 11, and Remington, 9. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she stated in an Instagram post. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.” Blackstock’s illness had not been previously known.
Clarkson had also postponed the opening of the residency in July, at the time citing the toll that prep and rehearsals had taken on her voice in another Instagram statement. Earlier in the spring, she was unexpectedly absent from her daytime talkshow taping, with Simu Liu stepping in as a guest host. “Kelly actually isn’t able to make it today. We’re sending her our very best,” Liu said, but there were few other details revealed. A source has told People that the absences from her talkshow were due to Blackstock’s illness.
