PHOENIX – Arizona is joining a multistate nonprofit consortium designed to lower prescription drug prices for residents.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Gov. Katie Hobbs said she signed an executive order to enter the state into the ArrayRx program.
“Through ArrayRx, Arizonans can get discounted drugs through its discount card program, which can save them up to 80% for generic drugs,” Hobbs said. “Coverage includes all FDA-approved prescriptions and discounts on over-the-counter medications and supplies for things like diabetes testing.”
The program offers savings of up to 18% for name-brand drugs.
How will ArrayRx work for Arizonans?
Members can compare prices and search pharmacies online.
“ArrayRx is free to join with no enrollment or membership dues for users and no transaction or marketing fees for participating pharmacies,” Hobbs said.
Unlike similar discount prescription card programs, ArrayRx doesn’t sell user data.
The consortium currently consists of Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Connecticut.
“This will provide Arizona a seat at the negotiating table when it comes to the price of prescription drugs,” Hobbs said.
The program can serve as a backstop for people who lose their insurance or those who have gaps in their current coverage.
“This prescription drug discount card program is another tool for Arizonans’ tool chest,” Dana Marie Kennedy, AARP Arizona state director, said during Wednesday’s rollout. “It’s more than a program; it’s a lifeline.”
