Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes made waves when they brought in former NFL superstar defensive lineman Warren Sapp to be a part of their defensive coaching staff.
Sapp, who was an absolutely dominant force during his NFL career, is set to enter his second season on the Colorado coaching staff under Sanders. When he first accepted the position, it caused a massive fun buzz to see him back involved in the game.
Heading into the 2025 college football season, Sanders and Sapp have their work cut out for them.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Buffaloes lost a lot of talent. Of course, both Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter took their talents to the professional level. However, they were not the only Colorado players to move on.

Along with Sanders and Hunter, LaJohntay Wester, Jimmy Horn Jr., Shilo Sanders, and Will Sheppard also left Boulder. All of those players were key parts of the 2024 team.
Despite the challenge ahead, Sapp spoke out with a strong message about the 2025 season. He’s clearly excited to be a part of the coaching staff.
“I never thought I wanted this job,” Sapp said. Now I’m addicted.”
Last season, the Buffaloes ended up with a 9-4 record. That included a 7-2 mark in the Big 12 conference.
It will be interesting to see what Sanders is capable of doing without his top two stars leading the way. Fans will get a glimpse at just how elite of a head coach he can truly be.
Entering his second season, Sapp’s role on the defensive side of the football will be important as well. Without a star-stacked offense, the defense will be asked to carry a much larger load.

Throughout his legendary NFL career, Sapp played in 198 total games. He racked up 569 total tackles to go along with 96.5 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, four interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 29 defended passes.
Seeing him back involved in the game and excited about the coaching aspect of football is exciting. His presence alone is a great recruiting tactic for Sanders and Colorado. Hopefully, he’s able to get the most out of the pass rush.
