The Crew is 1-1 through their first two league phase games. Their first game, at the end of July, ended in a 2-2 draw, with Toluca winning in penalty kicks. Diego Rossi put the Crew on the board in the 11th minute. Just after the halftime break, Max Arfsten netted another goal to set Columbus up 2-0 in the 48th minute.
The team also took on Puebla on Friday night. It got a 3-1 victory. Malte Amundsen was the first to score for Columbus in the 14th minute. Rossi wasted no time getting on the board as well with a goal in the 16th minute. Just before the halftime break, Columbus put in its third goal from Andrés Herrera.
Club León has lost both of its games, at least pulling one point away from a regulation draw in its first game. Matching up with CF Montréal, León drew 1-1, forcing the match to penalties, where León lost a 7-6 heartbreaker.
In its last game on Friday, Club León took on NYCFC and lost 2-0 in a shutout. Despite being on par with NYCFC in total shots, shots on goal, and possession time, León couldn’t find any offense.
