The 2025 NFL season is right around the corner. With just a month remaining before the start of the regular season, the Los Angeles Rams are dealing with a concerning situation regarding star quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Stafford has been dealing with a back injury that has forced him out of action. He has yet to practice with the team this year. That isn’t changing right now either.

With the Rams gearing up for a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys starting on August 5, Los Angeles will not have its starting quarterback on the field.

That news comes from a report by Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.

Klein also revealed that Stafford’s status for the team’s joint practice against the Los Angeles Chargers, which will be on August 13, is also up in the air.

“Not surprisingly, McVay said Matthew Stafford, who has not practiced, would not participate in a joint practice with Cowboys,” Klein wrote on X. “Availability for joint practice with Chargers TBD.”

During the offseason, Stafford was rumored to be a potential candidate to leave the Rams. However, despite the rumors, the team was able to work out a two-year, $84 million deal that kept him in town for the next two years.

At 37 years old, Stafford’s career is coming down to the wire. He is still playing at a high level, but health could become a major factor.

Last season with Los Angeles, Stafford played in 16 games. He completed 65.8 percent of his pass attempts for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Obviously, Stafford being out due to injury issues at this stage is not an ideal scenario for the Rams. Hopefully, he will be able to get back to full health and ready to go for the start of the regular season.

Should Stafford be forced to miss any considerable amount of time this season, Los Angeles would turn to Jimmy Garoppolo. He played in one game last season, completing 27 of his 41 passes for 334 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

Expect to hear more news about Stafford in the near future. For now, the Rams are concerned about their starting quarterback and he’s still not ready to get back on the field.
