Deion Sanders is fresh off of beating bladder cancer, but the Colorado Buffaloes head coach has not skipped a beat. He’s ready to get back on the field coaching his team. Of course, his son, Shedeur Sanders, has become one of the biggest storylines to watch in the NFL.

Over the last two years, Sanders and his son have put Colorado back on the map in college football. Along with Travis Hunter, the Buffaloes were one of the most entertaining teams in the nation.

Now, Sanders will have to figure out how to win without his son and Hunter leading the way.

While Sanders has healed from his cancer, he spoke out and revealed what he hasn’t healed from.

Shedeur was expected to be drafted in the first or possibly second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That didn’t happen. Instead, he slid all the way down to the fifth round, where the Cleveland Browns finally traded up to land him.

That is a slide that Sanders still thinks about and has not been able to understand.

“That’s one thing I’m not healed from yet,” Sanders said. “I’m healed from cancer, but I’m not healed from that yet … Like it’s heavy. Yeah, I’m really heavy right now.”

He has a legitimate reason to feel that way. The younger Sanders’ draft slide was one of the most surprising in recent history. No one saw that scenario coming.

Some had thought that Sanders could slide into the second round, but that would have been a surprise to many. Not being drafted in the second, third, or fourth round wasn’t even on the radar.

Despite the slide, Sanders landed in a good situation with the Browns. He had been connected to Cleveland when it possessed the No. 2 overall pick. With the Browns, he will have a chance to win playing time early on in his career.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for both Deion and his son.

Sanders will need to figure out how to win in Colorado without the star power that went off to the NFL. Shedeur, on the other hand, will have to figure out how to find his way onto the field.
