The Miami Dolphins’ season ended with an underwhelming 8-9 record and a final loss that led to star wide receiver Tyreek Hill pulling himself out of the game. Hill would go on to state that he was “opening the door” on leaving the team via a trade.

Since the end of the 2024 season, Hill has walked back his comments, apologizing privately and publicly to his teammates. Despite the apologies, a player pulling himself out of a game is never a good look.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel also stated that he spoke to Hill about what transpired and let him know that something like that cannot happen again without steep consequences.

Though Hill remains on the Dolphins, there is still work to be done. Shockingly, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa offered some comments on Hill’s behavior, stating:

“It’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that,” Tagovailoa said. “A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek that are fans of his — everyone has seen that. So, when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You got to work that relationship up; you’ve got to build everything back up again.”

Those Tagovailoa’s comments are brutal in nature; this is the mark of a leader. He cannot allow Hill to just fly under the radar following his 2024 season comments.

Tagovailoa showed some leadership by openly stating that Hill has to prove himself again to the team.

Now, Hill has broken his silence about the comments during Friday’s practice.

“I think the most important thing is being consistent. Coming out here everyday, being consistent. Just trying to get back to that old for of myself. I think it’s very important, just holding myself accountable. Tua’s comments were needed. He is obviously the leader of our team. He sets the standard,” Hill stated.

Hill has also showcased some self-awareness regarding how he handled the end of the season. Despite being in the heat of the moment, quitting on a team and then essentially requesting a trade is bad for morale.

Now, Hill is working hard to prove to himself and the organization that he wants to stay with the Dolphins.

Hill came over via a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs, which sent five picks to the Chiefs, including a first-rounder.

Since his arrival, Hill and Tua have become a stellar one-two punch offensively. Hill achieved career highs in receptions in 2022 and 2023 with 119. He also posted a career-high 1,799 yards in the 2023 season.

Hill fell below 1,000 yards in 2024 for the first time since the 2019 season, which was in large part due to Tagovailoa being out for multiple games due to suffering another concussion.

Tagovailoa has vowed to stay healthy this season and not put himself in situations that would warrant more time missed. Hill has vowed to get back to his old self.

If the pair stays true to their word, the Dolphins’ offense will be humming again.
