Making his triumphant return to the AZ Political Podcast, now as a published novelist, is the always witty, sometimes sardonic, and usually conservative Jon Gabriel, the self-proclaimed “Undisputed King of Stuff.”
Jon, a local boy who has written for publications across the country and is known worldwide as @exjon (his X moniker), talks with me about local and national politics.
What to expect from this episode of the AZ Political Podcast
He thinks it’s a good thing that Arizona isn’t in the national political spotlight quite as often these days — although that’s bad for my business, right? — because that means we aren’t being mocked quite as hard.
Now, there are two exceptions to the DC media not paying attention lil’ ol’ Arizona — and they are named Kelly and Gallego.
Jon weighs in on why he thinks our two Democratic U.S. senators are both running for president. And it’s a less obvious reason than actually wanting to be president.
By the way, he thinks Sen. Kelly would top Sen. Gallego in a cage match (if that’s how they decided which Arizonan would drop out) — and Jon doesn’t just pick Kelly because he’s a Navy veteran like him.
But Jon’s time in the Navy does come up because his novel, Sink The Rising Sun, about a World War II submarine crew, was inspired by his time serving on a Los Angeles Class nuclear sub.
I appreciate his service to our country — but I’m glad Jon isn’t in the Navy’s Silent Service anymore because it’s so darn entertaining hearing what he has to say out loud.
