The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is advising residents to avoid swimming, surfing and other ocean activities at several beaches due to elevated bacteria levels in the water.
Warnings are currently in effect for the following locations:
- Mothers Beach in Marina del Rey – entire swim area
- Ramirez Creek at Paradise Cove – 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier
- Strand Street extension at Santa Monica Beach – 100 yards up and down the coast from Lifeguard Tower 24
- Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu – 100 yards up and down the coast from the lagoon
- Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach – 100 yards up and down the coast from the public access steps
- Santa Monica Pier – 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier
- Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach – 100 yards up and down the coast from the storm drain
According to public health officials, these advisories were issued because recent testing showed bacterial levels exceeding state health standards.
The department encourages beachgoers to check for updated water quality information before visiting by calling 1-800-525-5662 or visiting PublicHealth.LACounty.gov/Beach.
