Yankees’ Brian Cashman Has Pitiful Explanation for Not Adding Starter

The New York Yankees came into the week of the trade deadline with a lot of massive holes on their roster.

The Bronx Bombers needed to address their massive issue at third base and did so by adding Amed Rosario and Ryan McMahon earlier in the week. The Yankees also traded for infielder Jose Cabellero as the deadline approached.

They also needed to add to the bullpen, and general manager Brian Cashman did so in a huge way. The Yankees added David Bednar, Camilo Doval, and Jake Bird. This trio will shore up the late innings for Aaron Boone’s squad.

The Yankees even traded for outfielder Austin Slater as a bench option.

But they didn’t address the massive void in their starting pitching rotation, but Cashman claims it wasn’t from a lack of effort.

“We certainly knocked on many doors regarding starting pitching, but we weren’t able to match up in that category,” Cashman said shortly after the trade deadline passed on Thursday.

The Yankees’ top two starting pitchers, Max Fried and Carlos Rodon, have been excellent this year. Will Warren and Cam Schlitter have shown a lot of promise in their young careers, but they’re not postseason-caliber pitchers.

The Yankees are being forced to use Marcus Stroman in their big league rotation right now.

When the postseason arrives, the Bronx Bombers will likely cut down to a four-man rotation, and there’s a very good chance they’re only going to be able to trot out two starters they’ll have confidence in.

Cashman’s response seems like a bit of a slap in the face to Yankees fans. The team needed starting pitching at the deadline, and Cashman didn’t make the move.

Still, the deadline was a success for the Bronx Bombers because of the major additions at third base and in the bullpen.
