Another professional athlete has been targeted by burglars – this time, it’s Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The attempted break-in happened early Wednesday morning at Yamamoto’s multimillion-dollar Hollywood Hills home while he was on the road with the team, wrapping up a series against the Cincinnati Reds.
According to police, someone was home at the time of the incident and turned on a light, which likely scared off the intruders. Surveillance and eyewitness reports indicate the suspects jumped over a fence and smashed a window before fleeing the scene when the lights were switched on. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and authorities say nothing appears to be stolen.
Property records confirm the home belongs to Yamamoto, who pitched seven strong innings for the Dodgers on Monday night. He is believed to still be traveling with the team as they finish their three-game set in Cincinnati.
This attempted burglary is the latest in a growing trend of professional athletes being targeted while away from home – often during road games. In a similar case, Dodgers teammate Blake Snell’s Seattle-area home was broken into while he was in Los Angeles for Opening Day earlier this season.
The issue has become so common that the FBI has issued warnings to athletes across leagues, urging them to take extra security measures.
In recent years, high-profile players like NFL veteran Richard Sherman, Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, and NBA player Luka Dončić have all reported home burglaries. Locally, Dodgers players Freddie Freeman and Max Muncy have also been victimized.
In response, many athletes have hired private security firms to monitor their homes while they’re on the road – but even that wasn’t enough to prevent Wednesday’s attempted break-in at Yamamoto’s residence.
As of now, it’s unclear if Yamamoto has returned home. Police have not released descriptions of the suspects, and the investigation remains ongoing.
