HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The extreme heat and humidity are forecast to continue as we round out the month of July.

Though showers and storms are forecast to increase in coverage on Thursday afternoon, the heat index across the area will meet the criteria for the Heat Advisory.

The Weather Authority has extended the Impact Day through Thursday evening because of the extreme heat and humidity. Air temperatures on Thursday will range from the low to mid-90s, with heat index values peaking at 108 degrees.

Dew points will remain in the 70s, creating very uncomfortable conditions.

The NWS has issued a Heat Advisory for the area through 9 p.m. Thursday.

The combination of high humidity and temperatures will allow the majority of the Tennessee Valley to reach well over 100 degrees for the heat index again on Thursday. Once showers and storms develop in the afternoon, the rain-cooled air will lead to a slight drop in temperatures.

The high temperature in Huntsville on Monday was 98 degrees. The high temperature on Tuesday was 99 degrees, marking the hottest day of the year and the highest since August 30 of last year.

Be sure to stay safe in the heat this week, and take actions to protect yourself from the heat. Be sure to stay hydrated, limit time spent outside, take breaks from the heat, and never leave kids or pets in hot cars.

As we head into the start of August, a shift in the weather pattern will bring relief from the dangerous heat and humidity. Stick with The Weather Authority for the latest on the cooler pattern.
