The bitch is back. By which we mean Emily Blunt as Emily on The Devil Wears Prada 2 set. No, she is not wearing the Chanel boots, but she is wearing the Dior sunglasses and shirt.
We’ve already been graced with several on-set photos from the highly anticipated sequel, but these photos, taken on July 29, are our first sighting of Blunt in costume, and there is already a lot to dissect. In addition to the Dior, this Emily look involves a lot of interesting layering and a creative use of pinstripes, which appear to be a stylistic theme for this film.
Emily Blunt has layered the crisp white Dior shirt—which we know is Dior because of the brand name printed on the front—under a black Wiederhoeft corset top, which is in turn worn under the corset-like waistband of her wide-legged, pinstriped, Jean Paul Gaultier trousers. A black ribbon tie, physics-defying black heels, and a ludicrously capacious black D-Journey bag complete the ensemble.
As in the original film, Blunt’s hair is copper-colored and worn down with a center part, but this time she’s added a few waves to give it texture.
Unlike in the original The Devil Wears Prada film, when their characters tended to embrace distinctly different trends, present day Emily’s personal style seems remarkably similar to present day Andy’s. In the set photos we’ve seen of Anne Hathaway, she is also getting extremely creative with plays on menswear, layering, and pinstripes. There’s her pinstriped maxi dress look, for instance, over which Hathaway has layered a bright red waistcoat. Hathaway has also been seen in her own, slightly less voluminous, pair of pleated pinstriped trousers. It feels a little like the entire Runway staff has taken last year’s “office siren” trend and run with it.
But don’t worry. Their styles may have become more aligned, but we’re sure Emily is still more than capable of knocking Andy Sachs down a peg or two when it’s called for.
