Three suspects with a baby were arrested for a string of retail thefts targeting stores across Southern California.

The suspects, all Bakersfield residents, were identified as:

  • Janaih Unique Bolden, 24
  • Xzayvia Somoan Peterson, 29
  • Joshlyn Lavette Bell-Sanders, 34

Ventura County sheriff’s deputies began investigating after loss prevention workers from Bath & Body Works and Old Navy reported the theft crew was targeting stores across the county.

Investigators said the trio was responsible for thefts in Los Angeles, Orange and Kern counties as well.

On July 23, detectives were alerted when the group had reportedly stolen from several Thousand Oaks shops. Deputies tracked them down and after they were seen leaving an Old Navy store at the Janss Marketplace, deputies confronted the trio and took them into custody.

The suspects had brought along a 3-month-old infant with them during the thefts. They allegedly used the baby’s stroller to hold and conceal their stolen merchandise.

During the arrest, detectives discovered over $5,000 worth of stolen items inside the suspects’ car that was taken from Ross, Old Navy, Gap and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

One suspect, Bolden, had a large magnet in her possession, which authorities said is often used by thieves to defeat security devices.

The 3-month-old baby, who was Bolden’s daughter, was taken into custody by a social worker from the Ventura County Child Protective Services.

All three suspects were arrested on numerous felony charges. They were also booked on previous cases from March 2025, for thefts that targeted a CVS and Bath & Body Works store in Camarillo.

They were charged by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office for three counts of organized retail theft, two counts of commercial burglary, two counts of grand theft, one misdemeanor count of possession of burglary tools and one misdemeanor count of child endangerment.

Special allegations were also filed “due to the sophistication of their crimes,” prosecutors said. Bell-Sanders and Bolden are being held on $10,000 bail, while Peterson’s bail was set at $20,000. All three are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 25.

Anyone with information regarding organized retail theft, vehicle/vehicle parts theft or cargo theft is encouraged to call the Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force at 805-383-8703.
