The Chicago Bulls would like to keep Josh Giddey around long-term. Heading into the NBA offseason, that was one of their main priorities.

While they want to get a new long-term deal done with him, the two sides have remained in a standoff. No deal has been agreed to and they don’t appear to be super close on a contract agreement either.

Amid the standoff, questions have been flying around about just how far apart the two sides are. That question has now been answered.

In a new report from Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, he shared that the Bulls and Giddey are $10 million apart on a new deal.

Giddey is searching for a contract in the $30 million per year range, while Chicago is motivated to keep that deal closer to $20 million per season.

“He wants to get a deal done to stay in Chicago, and the Bulls want him as a foundation piece, especially after helping the Thunder to an NBA title by giving them guard Alex Caruso for Giddey last offseason,” Cowley wrote.

“They are somewhere between $8 million to $10 million per year apart.”

During the 2024-25 NBA season, Giddey proved to be a perfect fit with the Bulls. There is a good chance that he could be their long-term point guard of the future.

Throughout the course of the year, the 22-year-old guard played in 70 games and made 69 starts. He averaged 14.6 points per game to go along with 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals. Giddey also shot 46.5 percent from the floor and 37.8 percent from three-point range.

Both his assist and rebound numbers were the best of his career. He had one season with better scoring, which came back in the 2022-23 campaign with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

While a deal has not been reached, this update provides a sense of optimism for Chicago. The fact that Giddey “wants to get a deal done to stay in Chicago” is a huge step in the right direction.

With both sides wanting to remain together, a deal will be much easier to reach. The discussions may be dragging on longer than fans would like, but it still seems very likely that they’ll be able to get something done.
