Earl of Sandwich’s temporary Downtown Disney location will remain open longer than expected as construction on the upcoming Porto’s Bakery is delayed once again.
The sandwich shop, currently operating in the former La Brea Bakery space, was originally slated to close on July 26. However, employees were informed on July 25 that the closure would be postponed by at least a month and possibly longer, according to MiceChat and the Orange County Register.
Disneyland officials said they are excited for work to begin on the all-new Porto’s Bakery location, but noted that, like many projects of this size and scale, several steps are involved in bringing the concept to life.
When completed, Porto’s will become the bakery chain’s seventh location and the first to feature sit-down table service and a full bar. The company previously announced plans to open the Downtown Disney location in 2025.
The new bakery was first announced during the 2022 D23 Expo, now known as D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. It will occupy the former site of La Brea Bakery near the Esplanade.
Porto’s Bakery currently operates locations in Buena Park, Downey, Glendale, West Covina, Burbank, and Northridge.
KTLA reached out to Porto’s Bakery for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
