The Nintendo Switch 2’s new features include Joy-Cons that can become a mouse. I’ve personally been wondering which game will allow us to take full advantage of mouse controls, and now I know: Mario Paint.

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to get artsy, then this 33-year-old classic game, now available for Nintendo Switch Online members as part of the July game updates, might be just the thing you’re looking for. The classic title was initially released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). An entertaining game that lets artistic inclinations shine, you could draw all sorts of pictures and color them in with the game’s drawing tools.

Mario Paint isn’t all about that still-life, however. If you’re someone who enjoys creating animated sequences and music for your creations, you’ll be able to do that too.

Gamers will also be able to take full advantage of Mario Paint’s various modes. There’s the Breakroom, which gives players the power of a fly swatter to go to town on the pesky bugs that have been gathering around your art studio’s trash cans. Then there’s Stamp Designer, which allows you to create up to 15 game sprites and other objects. It’s like having your very own stamp collector, but designed by you.

Mario Paint is available to play for anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online membership, for both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. If you want to use mouse controls with the former, you’ll have to connect a compatible USB mouse. But if you possess a Nintendo Switch 2, you can use your Joy-Con controller and draw and color with ease.

Alongside Mario Paint’s release into the Super NES collection for Nintendo Switch Online members, Mario Paint’s soundtrack is also available on the Nintendo Music app, which you can download via your phone and other smart devices for free.

Mario Paint is available to play now for Nintendo Switch online members on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
