With the New York Giants dealing with a critical loss, they dipped into the free agency market to bring in a new player. The team announced on Monday that they are reuniting with the veteran wide receiver, Gunner Olszewski.

On Sunday, the Giants lost their special-teams player, Bryce Ford-Wheaton, to an Achilles injury. Once Ford-Wheaton went down, it was clear the injury could be severe.

On Monday morning, all fears were confirmed; the Giants would lose Ford-Wheaton to an Achilles injury. His entire 2025 NFL season is likely over before it begins.

For Ford-Wheaton, that’s his second season-ending injury in three years. During his rookie season, Ford-Wheaton went down with a torn ACL during the third game of the preseason. He wouldn’t get a chance to debut until the following year. At this point, Ford-Wheaton has just 14 games under his belt, and it will likely remain that way until the 2026 NFL season.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t devastated! I did everything by the book! Didn’t take a single shortcut, left no stone unturned, invested everything into my body and my health this year,” Ford-Wheaton said on X.

“I’m not sure why me, but I promise I’m not going out on these terms. It’s a long road ahead for sure, but I know this is just part of God’s plan for me, no matter how tough it may seem right now. Thank you all for your prayers, please continue to keep me in them. I WILL be back, that’s a promise!! God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers!”

Olszewski returns to the Giants for another stint. The veteran entered the NFL in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Bemidji State. He started his career with the New England Patriots. He spent three seasons with the Patriots before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2022 NFL season. Midway through the 2023 season, Olszewski was released by the Steelers.

During the 2023 season, the Giants signed Olszewski to their practice squad. It wouldn’t be long before he was promoted to the active roster. Olszewski appeared in nine games for the Giants. He didn’t have a role on offense, but fielded 20 returns on special teams.

The young veteran averaged 12.2 yards per return. He totaled 244 yards. He ran back a 94-yard punt against the Los Angeles Rams late in the season. Although Olszewski re-signed with the Giants for the 2024 NFL season, he suffered a groin injury before the season started. Unfortunately, he was placed on the injured reserve.

The Giants didn’t plan to roll with Olszewski to begin the 2025 season, but now they could use the depth and training camp competition.

With 64 games in the bag, Olszewski has collected 137 returns. He has totaled 2,296 yards and scored two touchdowns. On offense, he has 15 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown.
