When it comes to the New York Giants’ quarterback situation, there are a lot of questions heading into the 2025 NFL season. The big question revolving around Jameis Winston is whether he will make it through the season without getting traded to another team.

That’s not to say that Winston doesn’t hold value to the Giants. The only reason why he would be traded is that he could suddenly become more valuable to another team, depending on their QB room.

Some teams have quarterbacks on the hot seat, without a proven backup. Other teams, unfortunately, expereince in-season injuries, which could force them to search for an expereinced backup. Winston could certainly be a target for teams in those positions, but one Giants insider suggests the veteran is unlikely to leave the building without a massive offer going to the Giants.

“They’re not trading Jameis unless someone makes them a Godfather offer,” NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton wrote on X.

“His signing was calculated, and they like his presence in the room. He’s here for two years at a good price unless something unexpected happens. If all goes as planned, Dart and Jameis 1-2 in 2026.”

A report recently suggested that Winston was initially garnering support as the potential starting quarterback for the Giants in 2025. The signing of Russell Wilson led the head coach Brian Daboll to publicly confirm that Wilson, not Winston, will get the nod to start at the beginning of the year.

Even if Winston doesn’t ultimately beat out the rookie Jaxson Dart for the backup position behind Wilson, he brings much more than a skill set and on-field experience. Winston has often been praised for his leadership, especially in recent seasons.

At 31 years old, Winston has seen plenty in the NFL as a starter and a backup. Through his first five years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winston was a full-time starter. When he got to the New Orleans Saints, Winston was signed as the backup for four seasons, starting in just 10 games during that run.

Last year, Winston started in seven games for the Cleveland Browns, as injuries affected the QB position. He completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,121 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Winston is on a two-year deal, worth $8 million. Barring a sudden change of heart or a “Godfather offer,” Winston seems likely to be in the building for the next two years.
