Summary

  • Jonathan Anderson is designing costumes for Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming “AI comedy” film, Artificial, marking their third collaboration, which explores controversies in Big Tech.

Though Jonathan Anderson is busy running his label JW Anderson on top of helming all of Dior, the multifaceted designer is not slowing his growing resume of costume design credits. Anderson is reuniting with Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino for a third round, lending his sartorial perspective to the director’s forthcoming “AI comedy” Artificial.

Loosely based on the story of OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, who developed the AI chatbot ChatGPT, the dramedy revolves around the surreal controversies and conflicts that have unfolded in Big Tech. The central theme is timely, as AI continues to infiltrate daily life, and scandals surrounding AI models, such as Elon Musk‘s Grok, emerge.

The two highly-lauded creatives have developed a working relationship in recent years. In a recent WWD interview, the designer shared, “We think in a similar way, and about similar subjects — the idea of taste, aesthetics — as well as what’s happening in design, visual and decorative arts.”

Anderson confirmed his inclusion on Instagram on Sunday, sharing that he is “Very excited to be working with the amazing [Luca Guadagnino].” Previously working on Guadagnino’s 2024 movies Challengers and Queer, the new film features Andrew Garfield, Yura Borisov, and Cooper Koch, who starred in Queer. The designer proved his cinematic prowess last year, earning a Costume Designers Guild Awards nomination for Challengers.

Currently in pre-production, ‘Artificial’ has yet to receive an official release date.
