New England Patriots Linked to Major Late-Offseason Move to Help Drake Maye

The New England Patriots have made a lot of changes throughout the 2025 NFL offseason. From hiring Mike Vrabel to be their new head coach to a bunch of aggressive roster moves to improve, the Patriots are looking to take a jump back into playoff contention.

Drake Maye is heading into his second season as the clear-cut franchise quarterback in New England. As a rookie, he showcased a special arm talent that has Patriots fans excited about the future.

However, the team should still be looking for any opportunity to support him and improve the weapons he has around him.

Already this offseason, New England has brought in a few new wide receivers. Stefon Diggs was the big move in free agency, but Mack Hollins was also signed away from the division rival Buffalo Bills. Also, the Patriots drafted Kyle Williams in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Could the team still be open to making another move to bolster the wide receiver room?

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested a move that would do just that. He named New England as a “logical” landing spot for veteran free agent wideout Keenan Allen.

“Allen would be a sensible target for the New England Patriots, who are looking to develop second-year quarterback Drake Maye and who lead the NFL in remaining cap space,” Knox wrote. “The Patriots did sign Stefon Diggs to be their new WR1, but they could afford to double down on seasoned veteran receivers.”

Allen played a key role for the Chicago Bears and rookie quarterback Caleb Williams last season. He appeared in 15 games, catching 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns.

Even at 33 years old, he’s still a highly impactful wide receiver. Giving Maye another veteran security blanket with good hands that brings consistency to the field would be a wise addition.

On a one-year deal, the Patriots couldn’t miss by targeting Allen. Maye has a lot of work to do to reach his ceiling. Having a weapon like Allen could help him with his development in year two.

With training camp set to begin for New England on Wednesday this week, making a late move for Allen could make a lot of sense.
