JACKSON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Jackson County Emergency Management Agency took to social media to ask the public for help to complete its new hazard mitigation plan.
Jackson County EMA said its 2026 Hazard Mitigation Plan is developed by local, state or federal governments to identify natural and man-made hazards, assess associated risks and outline long-term strategies to reduce/eliminate the damage of the hazards.
How does this affect me?
The EMA said the effectiveness of the plan depends on community participation. The agency said residents are encouraged to contribute by providing local knowledge, voicing concerns and helping prioritize projects that reflect local values and needs.
“Mitigation is most effective when it reflects the needs and knowledge of the community,” the EMA said.
“Why Public Participation Matters:-We need your firsthand experiences to identify community-specific hazards-This is your chance to voice concerns about vulnerable areas and critical infrastructure.-You can help to prioritize mitigation projects that reflect your community’s values and needs.”
