With NFL training camps around the corner, the Washington Commanders took care of some business on Thursday. According to a report, the team signed its second-round rookie, Trey Amos.

Soon, the Commanders will officially announce the agreement.

Amos joins the Commanders this season after runs with three different teams in the NCAA. During the 2020 season, Amos appeared in 11 games at Louisiana. He played there for three seasons before debuting for Alabama in 2023.

Amos started 12 of the 14 games he played at ‘Bama. He registered six tackles. For the 2024 season, Amos went to Ole Miss. He appeared in 13 games.

With Ole Miss, Amos had his most productive season. The cornerback registered 39 tackles, with four of them going for a loss. He collected three interceptions and deflected 13 passes. He also forced one fumble.

After a strong season at Ole Miss, Amos was on the board for the Commanders when they went on the clock with the 61st overall pick in the second round. Washington scooped him up with their pick, but it took a while for the two parties to agree to terms on the rookie deal.

The terms of the deal have not been confirmed at this time.

With Amos wrapping up his contract discussions with the Commanders, the 2025 NFL Draft class for Washington is complete with seven new additions.

The team landed the offensive tackle Josh Conerly with the 29th overall pick. Amos was the second selection for the Commanders, and they went selection-less in the third round.

When the Commanders went on the clock in the fourth round, they landed Jaylin Lane with the 128th pick. In the sixth round, the Commanders called on the linebacker Kain Medrano, and wrapped up the draft with the running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt with their seventh-round selection.

Signing Amos was a major order of business for the Commanders, but they aren’t in the clear with contract discussions just yet. The Terry McLaurin situation still looms large. As the veteran wide receiver desires a new deal and is likely to hold out without one, the Commanders will have to get that squared away much sooner than later.

For the time being, the Commanders’ brass can feel good knowing that their rookie class is taken care of for the time being.
