EXCLUSIVE: London-based production company Finite Films & TV has opened a new base in Northern Ireland‘s capital of Belfast.

The operation is being set up and run by producer Chiara Giavarini with a remit to focus on international talents and co-productions.

In one of its first activities, it will be the U.K. production office for an international co-production, the details of which are under wraps, due to be shot just outside Belfast at the end of the summer.

In the meantime, Finite Films & TV has also officially announced its involvement in psychological horror The Fears, written and directed by Andrew Gunn. It will be his first feature after a raft of high-profile TV directorial credits including Doctor Who, Life on Mars, Survivors and Primeval.

The Fears is set against the backdrop of an oppressive Immigration Detention Center. When it becomes infected with a mysterious illness causing mass hysteria, an interpreter at the center battles to protect a newly arrived orphan as well as find her way back to her three-year-old daughter at the other side of the facility before it’s too late.

The feature, which is currently in development, is scheduled to shoot in Northern Ireland in 2026.

Finite Films & TV’s expansion into Northern Ireland comes amid the UK region’s push to become a global creative hub, with recent developments including the opening of virtual production facility Studio Ulster in June.

“This is an exciting time to be amongst the Irish and Northern Irish industry and its exceptional talent and support by Northern Ireland Screen and Screen Ireland,” said Finite Films & TV founder Amy Gardner.

“We are delighted to be positioning Finite Films & TV in Belfast to collaborate on our projects, including The Fears. Andrew Gunn is renowned for his vision for human storytelling, and it’s an honour to be collaborating with him on this project, marking his foray from TV into features.”

Recent features involving Finite Films & TV include Sundance 2025 selected drama Brides; Joy Gharoro-Akpojotor’s Dreamers, which played in the Berlinale’s Panorama section earlier this year, and Joshua Oppenheimer’s Golden Age musical The End, which debuted in Telluride, Toronto and San Sebastian in 2024.
