A former Texas Southern University football star was fatally shot during a parking garage dispute in a Houston apartment complex.

Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at the Mac 4660 Apartments, about a mile away from TSU, at around 8:15 p.m. Friday, where they found Tyler Martinez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, KHOU 11 reported.

The Houston Fire Department attempted to save the 24-year-old athlete, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, Lt. Amber Khan told the outlet.

Martinez — a former defensive tackle for TSU’s football team — had gotten into a physical altercation in the parking garage of the complex with Isaac Jasper Robinson, 22, before things turned deadly.

During the fight, Martinez had pinned Robinson to the ground, but eventually got up and began walking away when a woman with Robinson retrieved a gun from a vehicle and handed it to him.

The alleged shooter then fired off multiple rounds at Martinez — striking him three times in the torso, witnesses told police.

Robinson, a sophomore at Texas Southern University, had initially fled from the scene, but he later returned and confessed to the shooting, according to police.

Police said Robinson lived in the same apartment complex as Martinez.

It’s unclear if they knew each other before the shooting.

The 22-year-old was arrested at the scene, charged with first-degree murder, and booked into the Harris County Jail.

He made his first court appearance on Saturday, where prosecutors asked for a $250,000 bond.

Robinson’s defense attorney requested a $75,000 bond, telling the judge that his client has no criminal history and is employed by a local security company,  KHOU 11 reported.

After reviewing the evidence, Judge Veronica M. Nelson set Robinson’s bond at $150,000, with the conditions of his release being that he follow a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, undergo GPS monitoring, and be subject to restrictions on the possession of weapons, drugs, and alcohol.

Robinson is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, according to court documents.

Martinez, a Houston native, played four seasons for the TSU Tigers football team from 2019 to 2023, after a standout high school career at Humble High School.

Playing under coach Clarence McKinney, Martinez recorded 57 tackles, four sacks, and five tackles for a loss during the 20 appearances he made in his college career, according to Sports Illustrated.
