A 25-year-old Hemet man has been arrested in connection with a January homicide that left one man dead and another injured, following what Riverside County authorities described as a “lengthy and exhaustive” investigation.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday that Johnathen Amezola was taken into custody on July 6 in the city of Menifee and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of murder.

The arrest follows a six-month investigation by the department’s Central Homicide Unit, with support from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office Gang Impact Team.

The case stems from a violent incident reported just after 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 12, in the 1800 block of Normandy Court in San Jacinto. Deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to multiple reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and found an adult male on the ground suffering from severe injuries. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later, a juvenile male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound arrived at a local hospital. Investigators later determined he was also injured in the same incident.

The victim killed in the attack was identified as 20-year-old Raul Solorio of Hemet, the Sheriff’s Department confirmed. Authorities did not disclose a possible motive or whether the case is gang-related, and it remains unclear how many individuals were involved in the shooting.

The Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Master Investigator D. Robertson at (951) 955-1777 or Investigator J. Vasquez at the Hemet Station at (951) 791-3400.
