Spider-Man is likely to start from scratch in the forthcoming fourquel Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it looks like the MCU franchise itself will also go back to the beginning in terms of its moviemaking approach.

Teasing the upcoming installment for the first time with YouTube series Flip Your Wig, star Tom Holland said the web slinger’s next appearance would offer viewers a “breath of fresh air.”

“I’m obviously over the moon and so excited,” he said of reprising Peter Parker, now unknown to his loved ones following the dramatic conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal. And I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID; we shot the entire film on stages.”

He continued, “Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together. So it’s gonna feel like making [2017’s] Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

No Way Home, released in 2021, kicks off immediately following the events of 2019 sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home, which revealed Peter Parker’s identity to the globe. In a film chock-full of cameos, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange agrees to cast a spell to erase the populace’s knowledge of Spider-Man’s true self, but not before it goes wildly awry, introducing villains from various multiverses (and films past), as well as the triumphant return of past iterations of the friendly neighborhood hero in Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Ultimately, in order to protect the world from multiversal chaos, Peter Parker must allow the Sorcerer Supreme to complete the spell.

Set for theatrical release on July 31, 2026, the movie is helmed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings alum Destin Daniel Cretton, with producers Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige returning. Reprising her role alongside Holland is Zendaya, and production is expected to commence once both have completed filming Christopher Nolan’s feverishly anticipated The Odyssey. New undisclosed roles will be occupied by Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink and The Bear‘s Liza Colón-Zayas.

Spider-Man: No Way Home became a wild success as the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time at the global box office with $1.95 billion.
