A tropical storm rolling towards the Gulf of America sparked a series of delays at major airports trailing up the entire East Coast on Monday evening, including JFK and LaGuardia.

The Federal Aviation Administration extended numerous ground stops at more than a dozen major airports from Florida to New York, lasting through the evening and causing delays up to four hours long.

New York City, which was under a flash flood warning Monday night, is at the epicenter of the chaos as flight delays keep ticking up at JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.

At JFK, flights are delayed roughly three hours and 15 minutes. LaGuardia, though, is holding all flights until at least 6:15 p.m., according to the FAA airport status.

Meanwhile, Newark International Airport — never letting its New York counterparts outdo it — is holding all flights until at least 7 p.m., with an anticipated three-hour and 21-minute delay on top of that, according to the status tracker.

Other airports experiencing disastrous delays, bleeding into the madness, include Boston Logan International Airport, Baltimore/Washington International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Denver International Airport, and Virginia’s Dulles International Airport.

Florida is expected to be slammed by tropical downpours starting Tuesday and lasting through the week. Separately, a cold front is also pushing storms towards the East Coast, according to AccuWeather.

In all, roughly 7,875 flights into, out of, and within the United States were delayed Monday, according to FlightAware.

Another 1,457 were outright cancelled, according to the tracker, including 716 flights either originating at or heading to JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark.

Last Tuesday, severe thunderstorms caused similar delays at the same major airports, and even more the week prior, signaling a turbulent summer of traveling for many.
