Summary

  • HBO confirmed filming is underway for its Harry Potter TV series in the U.K.
  • First images show Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, with updated uniform details
  • Arabella Stanton (Hermione), Alastair Stout (Ron), and new high-profile cast members confirmed

The Wizarding World is officially coming to the small screen with a fresh vision. HBO has today confirmed that production is now underway on its highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series adaptation at Warner Bros. Studios in the U.K. Alongside this major announcement, the network has revealed a thrilling first look at the titular character, setting the stage for a new generation of magic.

The initial image released by HBO offers a glimpse of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, fully donning the signature Hogwarts uniform. Fans will notice the familiar round-rimmed glasses and lightning bolt scar, yet eagle-eyed fans will spot subtle updates to the Gryffindor uniform’s design, including new piping details on the jumper and variations in the tie, likely a deliberate move to distinguish the series from the beloved film franchise. In addition to McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton is cast as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, forming the new Golden Trio. The show is expected to debut in 2027.

Today’s announcement also confirmed a new wave of cast members, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander. These new additions join previously announced high-profile actors like Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, completing a stellar ensemble ready to lead this ambitious, multi-season endeavor. The series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes and J.K. Rowling also serving as an executive producer. Shooting of the first season is expected to last until Spring 2026, with the second season immediately following after a short break.
