EXCLUSIVE: Omari K. Chancellor (Elsbeth, The Greatest Beer Run Ever) will play fashion designer Gordon Henderson in Ryan Murphy‘s Love Story (fka American Love Story) in a recurring role.

Love Story, the latest offshoot in FX/20th TV’s American Crime Story franchise, is a scripted anthology series of sweeping true love stories that captured the world’s attention.

In the first season, focused on JFK Jr. (Paul Kelly) and Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon), what started as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, began to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel-gaze of tabloid media. The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when their private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts.

Henderson was a close friend and former roommate of Bessette and a former assistant of Calvin Klein (to be played by Sam Nivola) when Bessette handled public relations for the fashion house. Although she picked Narciso Rodriguez to design her wedding gown, Henderson helped Bessette slip into her dress when she struggled to get it on. Henderson famously designed Kennedy Jr.’s wedding suit for the 1986 nuptials, however, which launched the designer’s bespoke collection. Henderson received the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Award for best new talent in 1989 and an exclusive deal with Saks.

FX and 20th Television declined to comment.

Chancellor joins the previously announced series regulars Naomi Watts as JFK Jr’s mother, Jackie O, Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, as well as Sydney Lemmon as Lauren Bessette in a recurring role.

Chancellor received their MFA from NYU Tisch’s Graduate Acting Program. He was seen in a supporting role in Peter Farrelly’s film, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, for Apple+, and Amani at Rattlestick Theater Off-Broadway. Other credits include Elsbeth (CBS), Why Women Kill (Paramount+), and Soft (The Williamstown Theater Festival). Chancellor is a member of Gyaldem.us. A Brooklyn-based art collective. He is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency and Vickery Management.
