Players, rejoice: Nintendo Switch 2 restocks are going down at Best Buy on Thursday, July 17.
The great Switch 2 restocking is in-store only at your local Best Buy and will coincide with the release of Donkey Kong Bananza. However, the announcement doesn’t reveal whether the store will carry the Mario Kart World bundle, listed at $499.99, or the stand-alone console priced at $449.99 (or both). Regardless of the console bundle, Best Buy did mention that the system’s “availability is subject to change” and varies based on location.
Polygon reached out to a Best Buy representative to get clarification on whether the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle would be a part of the system restock. We will be sure to update the story with any new information.
Online shoppers still looking for a Switch 2 should consider signing up for an Amazon invite to secure a Switch 2 (or the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle) through the digital marketplace.
Nintendo said it had been concerned about not meeting the demand for the Switch 2 before the console officially launched. Ahead of the Switch 2’s release, Nintendo acknowledged that it might not be able to meet the demand of all players looking to get their hands on the latest hardware at launch. In April, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa posted a message to X, explaining that the company received 2.2 million applications for the Switch 2 lottery sale in Japan alone, a number “significantly exceeding [Nintendo’s] expectations and far surpasses the quantity of Nintendo Switch 2” consoles that it could deliver at launch.
Since its record-breaking launch, Switch 2 has been quite the elusive console, with the product sporadically restocking and selling out at various retailers globally. Nintendo discussed the Switch 2 supply during its 85th annual general meeting of shareholders in June, and Furukawa apologized again for not being able to meet every player’s needs.
“Currently, in many countries, the demand for Switch 2 exceeds the supply, and we are unable to meet it,” said Furukawa. “We understand that some shareholders have also been unable to [meet] it. As a company, we are working to improve our production system to deliver as many units as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this initial demand, which greatly exceeded our expectations.”
It’s unclear how long the Nintendo Switch 2 shortage will continue, but if you really want to get your hands on the new tech, Best Buy might help you out — just make sure you show up in person, not online.
