This House of the Dragon star is having one hell of a summer

Maybe you recognize him as the double-crossing priest from Peaky Blinders. Or as the kind-hearted king whose skin fell off in House of the Dragon. Paddy Considine has long been one of the top “oh hey it’s that guy” actors of our time, but over the past few weeks, he’s kicked things up a notch with a remarkable string of bangers. It’s the Summer of Considine, everyone.

It’s hit the point where seeing Paddy Considine on the cast list for a film or TV show has become a de facto stamp of approval. Just based on his 2025 iMDB — which includes a crime movie, a crime movie, and a crime show — if Considine appears in a project, there is now a 97% chance I’m sold on it. Watch these three to start.

Deep Cover

Release date: June 12Where to watch: Amazon Prime

Deep Cover is about a trio of improv actors (played by Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed) who “yes, and” their way into a series of increasingly dangerous situations: becoming undercover cops, buying counterfeit cigarettes, snorting untested cocaine, joining up with one of London’s most notorious drug rings. And that’s just the first 30 minutes! Considine plays Fry, the leader of the crew the actors accidentally infiltrate. In lesser hands, Fry could’ve been a one-note two-bit villain. But Considine brings such a carefully calibrated balance of menace and compassion to the role that you never really know what he’s going to do next — almost like he’s making it all up as he goes.

Heads of State

Release date: July 2Where to watch: Amazon Prime

Considine plays more of a straightforward role in Heads of State, but that’s exactly what the film calls for. Heads of State casts John Cena as the U.S. president and Idris Elba as the U.K. prime minister, who have to overcome personality differences to team up and fist-fight terrorists. It’s exactly the sort of “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” action comedy that they simply no longer make like they used to — and yes, it’s as absurd and silly as it sounds. But an action flick of this nature can only work with the presence of a mustache-twirling villain who absolutely chews the scenery. Considine understood the assignment.

Mobland

Release date: March 30 premiere, June 1 finaleWhere to watch: Paramount Plus, Amazon Prime (first episode only)

I’ll confess that I’m still making my way through Mobland, Paramount Plus’ crime drama that doubles as an excuse to put Pierce Brosnan’s face on its homepage. But it’s rapidly become one of my favorite shows of 2025. Considine plays the middle son of Brosnan’s character, the patriarch of a U.K. criminal empire. Dramatic establishing shots of London punctuate action sequences and scenes of Tom Hardy being Tom Hardy. Who knows? In the next episode, maybe Considine’s character suffers the fate that usually happens to characters who cross Tom Hardy. (No spoilers please!!!) That would be a shame. Anyway, Paramount has made the entire first episode free on YouTube; if you’re curious to see for yourself, we’ve embedded it above.
