HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Police Department said it arrested one person for shooting into an occupied building as well as an unoccupied vehicle over the weekend.
HPD said on Friday, just before 10 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of S. Edgemont Drive for a report of a possible shooting in progress. When officers arrived, HPD said they found the front storm door of a home had been damaged and an unoccupied vehicle had been hit by gunfire.
The department said there was no indication that someone had been shot.
A preliminary investigation identified Cedric Tremel Briggs, 45, of Huntsville, as the suspect. The investigation also revealed that Briggs had been in a verbal altercation with the victim after she reportedly began packing her belongings and contacted a friend for help.
HPD said a confrontation then happened between the friend of the victim and Briggs, who then pulled out a firearm and began shooting. Gunshots hit both the house and a vehicle.
The department said Briggs fled the scene before officers arrived, but was later found in the area and taken into custody. An HPD Violent Crimes Unit investigator responded to conduct the investigation.
Briggs was arrested Saturday and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied residence and into an unoccupied vehicle. Jail records also show he has a certified copy felony through the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. His bond in total was set at $75,000.
