Authorities are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man following a physical altercation outside a business in the unincorporated Glen Ivy area of Corona early Sunday morning, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies from the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of a fight in the 9000 block of Pulsar Court at approximately 1:34 a.m. on July 13.
When they arrived, they found an off-duty paramedic and firefighter already on scene administering life-saving measures to an unresponsive man, later identified as Rene Nieves, a resident of Corona.
Despite their efforts, Nieves was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sergeant Mike Kelleher, the reporting supervisor for the case.
The circumstances surrounding the altercation prompted the response of the department’s Central Homicide Unit, which has since assumed control of the investigation.
Investigators identified and interviewed the other individual involved in the incident, who was transported to the station, cooperated with detectives, and was later released. No arrests have been made.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department stated that the case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review at a later date. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public and no additional suspects are believed to be involved.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released further details.
