In an effort to reduce shelter overcrowding and connect animals with permanent homes, Pasadena Humane has launched a summer adoption campaign waiving all fees for adult cats and dogs.

The “Hot Dog & Cool Cat” promotion, which runs through July 20, is open to anyone looking to adopt a pet six months or older.

The initiative comes during one of the busiest times of year for animal shelters, when intake rates spike and kennel space becomes scarce.

Currently, Pasadena Humane is caring for nearly 150 adoptable cats and dogs, many of whom arrived in recent weeks. Shelter officials hope the fee-waived campaign will increase adoptions and help alleviate pressure on staff and facilities.

“We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity for our community to adopt a loving companion at no cost,” said Marissa Sunny, Senior Director of Placement at Pasadena Humane in a statement. “There’s no better time than now to make a difference in a pet’s life.”

The promotion is funded by the Pet Care Foundation, with additional support from a grant by the Georgia B. Ridder Foundation. While the adoption fee is waived, Pasadena Humane will continue to apply its standard screening process to ensure pets are matched with appropriate homes.

All adopted animals will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before going home. The shelter is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and adoptions are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.More information, including a list of available pets, is available at pasadenahumane.org.
