A shooter was killed and multiple other people, including a state trooper, were injured in a shooting that ended at a church in Kentucky on Sunday, the authorities said.

The shooter, who was not immediately identified, shot a trooper and then fled the scene, ending up at the Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky., Sherry H. Bray, a spokeswoman for the Kentucky State Police, said in a statement.

“At this time, we can confirm that the trooper is receiving medical attention,” she said, adding that there were “multiple victims at the church” and that emergency responders were treating people at the scene.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.

Gov. Andy Beshear of Kentucky said on Sunday that he was “aware of a series of incidents in Lexington around one suspect, including a trooper-involved shooting and an additional shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church with multiple injuries.”

It was not immediately clear if the shooting was tied to reports of another shooting on Sunday at Blue Grass Airport, which is also in Lexington.

An airport spokeswoman said that “an incident” occurred on a roadway on airport property.
