A mother was arrested after a suspected DUI crash killed her 5-year-old son and another woman in Ventura County.
The suspect was identified as Myryam Castillo, 28, of Fillmore, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 2, deputies responded to a crash on Ventura Street, just west of D Street, in Fillmore around 8:45 p.m.
Investigators said two vehicles had collided head-on in the westbound lanes. Paramedics found six people injured at the scene. One victim, Maria DonDiego, 34, of Oxnard, was pronounced dead.
Five others, including two children with serious injuries, were transported for medical care. The suspect’s 5-year-old son later died from his injuries at the hospital.
Investigators alleged Castillo had been drinking before she drove her car across a two-way center turn lane on Ventura Street. She was driving in the wrong direction when her vehicle collided head-on with DonDiego’s car.
On July 8, Castillo was arrested on two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She was booked and later released after posting $100,000 bail.
No further details were released as the case remains under investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is asked to call Deputy Bradley Bordon at 805-388-5146 or email [email protected].
