Celtics Reveal Huge Update on Jayson Tatum’s Recovery

The Boston Celtics are still licking their wounds following the heartbreaking end to the 2024-25 NBA season. Losing to the New York Knicks in the second round of the NBA Playoffs was bad enough. Add in the fact that Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles in that series made it much worse.

Following the Achilles tear, Tatum is expected to miss most if not all of the 2025-26 season. He was not the only star to tear his Achilles in the playoffs, with both Damian Lillard and Tyrese Haliburton also suffering the same fates.

Tatum has been working hard in his rehab process already. He’s bound and determined to get back on the court as soon as possible and pick up where he left off.

With that being said, everyone recovers from a torn Achilles injury differently. There is really no guarantee about how fast or slow the recovery will be.

In Tatum’s case, things seem to be moving along quite nicely.

Brad Stevens, the Celtics’ president of basketball operations, spoke out recently with an update about both Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Of course, Brown underwent knee surgery after the season ended to repair a partially torn meniscus in his right knee.

“Jayson is working every single day. He has literally been here every day, except he took a few days break, but when he takes a few days break, (trainer) Nick (Sang) goes with him. So he’s still working every single day,” Stevens said.

“It’s been unique to be here in June, and the early part of July, and both Jayson and Jaylen are here. We’ve played, obviously, late (in the playoffs) and this is usually the time where guys get away. But coming off of each of them having surgery, they’ve both been here. Jaylen was in this morning, he did a shooting workout, looks good. Jayson was in — moving pretty fast on that boot today. All indications are they are both progressing at incredible rates, which is great. But we’re not going to put any pressure on Jayson to get back any time soon. We have no reason to believe that Jaylen won’t be all clear and ready to go fairly shortly.”

Obviously, Boston will not rush Tatum back onto the floor. Simply hearing that he is progressing quickly in his recovery is great news.

Holding him out for the 2025-26 season would not be a bad strategy. Along those lines, the Indiana Pacers recently put an end to the speculation about Haliburton potentially making a comeback next season. Haliburton’s injury did happen well after Tatum’s though.

Hopefully, there are no setbacks on Tatum’s road to recovery. This is great news, but there is still a lot of work to do to get back on the court.
