HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Grove Church down County Line Road in Madison is a place of worship for many, but for some, its a community, its inclusive, and its a place for congregation.

The people who attend say they feel accepted, after feeling like outcasts at their last church.

About 2 years ago, Steve Dye and his wife moved to Huntsville, on faith.

Steve’s story is unique because he is deaf, however he’s also a minister, a husband, and a father.

Steve says he felt called to serve at The Grove, and wanted to give deaf people access to the same services that hearing people receive.

Steve says that many deaf people have to either lip read at church, or stream it online in order to use closed captioning, since there are no interpreters.

But now, every Sunday, those that are deaf and hard of hearing in the community come together to praise god, share their challenges and triumphs, and fellowship.

Steve Dye says for years, the deaf community in North Alabama strained to grasp God’s word through second hand understanding, but now, they can hear his message clearly, not through sound, but through shared experience, culture, and heart.

Faith had finally come home.
