Dodgers Predicted To Cut Ties With Talented Pitching Prospect This Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers have fought injuries all season, and it’s likely going to turn them into some of the more aggressive contenders ahead of the trade deadline.

If the Dodgers are going to be aggressive, they’re going to need to part ways with some highly regarded top prospects. While one or two of Los Angeles’ prospects are likely untouchable, the rest seem like fair game.

Henry Palattella of Dodgers Way recently predicted that Los Angeles would cut ties with pitching prospect Justin Wrobleski in a trade ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.

“While the 24-year-old southpaw has a 4.08 ERA in 35 1/3 innings this year, he posted a 2.73 ERA across 26 1/3 innings in June while working as a bulk man in the middle and late innings,” Palattella wrote. “No team mixes and matches pitching quite like the Dodgers, but Wrobleski’s recent run of form has shown that his struggles last year and early this year are more of an aberration than the norm.

“Yes, the Dodgers can’t have enough pitching, but they have reinforcements coming soon and will likely be in on the top arms available at this year’s deadline. Wrobleski could help sweeten that pot.”

Wrobleski has been a valuable piece for the Dodgers this season, but it doesn’t seem like he has a future in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers consistently build their pitching staff in trades and free agency. With so many high-level names under contract for the next few years, Wrobleski will struggle to find playing time in Los Angeles unless unfortunate injuries continue to occur.

But the Dodgers could use him as a trade piece in a deal for a star player or two. Somebody like Aroldis Chapman or Freddy Peralta could be a target in a potential buyer-to-buyer trade involving the lefty prospect.
